Capitale de la Douleur: Multi-sensory Book

It is noticed that there is a lack of a reading culture in the Arab world; due to the illiteracy in the past 100 years, not having it as a habit, the educational system that makes reading a burden rather than a leisure, and the lack of public libraries’ visits.
Voice over: Samer Itani
In order to create a reading culture in the Arab world we must decrease the rate of Aliteracy by enhancing the reading experience with the integration of multi-senses in teenager’s books, making it accessible. As it opens space for the readers to immerse in the book and feel connected to it as it engages the senses. Multi-sensory books create a perfect environment for the reader to easily immerse whenever they are.

This project is executed through a book of the collection of poems from "Capital de la Douleur" book by Paul Eluard, a french surrealist poet. In this case, multi-sensory brings forward the surrealist thoughts of Eluard. The aim of multi-sensory is to compliment the surrealist content rather than having it as an addition to the content.

In order to make the multi-sensory book come to life, content analysis and visual planning were made.
It is followed by guidelines, visual and multi-sensory experimentation that lead to the final outcome of the book and poster.
